Library Board Trustee packet
First day to pick and circulate petitions: August 25, 2026
Documents:
Items 1-3 must be signed in front of a notary before filing, and all should be bound in this order:
- Statement of Candidacy—Nonpartisan (P-1A)
- Independent Candidate Petitions (P-4)
- Loyalty Oath (optional) (P-1C)
- Statement of Economic Interest Form: Must be filed before November 23, 2026, and receipt is to be attached to petition.
Petition Filing Period: November 16-23, 2026 (returned to the Library)
Consolidated Election Day—April 1, 2027
Term: Library Trustees are elected for a 6-year term. This is not a paid position.
Qualifications:
- Reached the age of 18 on or before the date of the Consolidated Election (April 1, 2027)
- One-year residency in the library district at the time nomination papers are filed. (75 ILCS 16/30-20(d))
- Reasons for ineligibility:
- a. Arrears in the payment of a tax or other indebtedness due to the library district
- b. Has been convicted in any court located in the United States of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury, or other felony. (75 ILCS 16/30-20(e))
Signature Requirements:
Potential candidates must obtain 50 signatures on their candidate petition. The following are the requirements to qualify to sign a petition:
- They must be a registered voter in the Library District.
- They must live in one of the 15 townships in Jefferson County that are part of the library district.
- They cannot live in Grand Prairie Township, as it is not part of the C.E. Brehm Library District.
